Venue:
Valley Art Supplies |
Address: 76 Cottage St |
Event: My work is a very personal expression/statement of the world around me and inside of me, as I see it and feel it. I don't censor myself as an artist, because that is dishonest and against my nature. Above all else, I want viewers of my artwork to see the honesty in it, and to feel the energy, emotion, and expression. R.Bard January 2008 |

Artist: Jennifer Gutterman Almeida |
Medium: Photography |
|
Venue:
Marketplace at Eastworks |
Address: 116 Pleasant St |
Event: As an artist I have expressed my inner eye in a variety of media - Oils, Watercolors, Ink, Pencil, clay, animation, 3D modeling, wood, graphic design, etc. Many of these photos were taken with the intention of using them as photo references for large scale Oil paintings. The evolved into so much more and became expression in their own right. Then the reference photos became snapshots of interesting things - then a compulsion to capture the dynamic and the interesting. Color and black & white, all digital images and all digitally processed and printed. From Key West to Mystic, CT, from New Orleans to New York City, from Hadley to Ft. Myers, these photos are only this step in the journey that is always evolving. And that is why I enjoyed it so much. |

Artist: Erin Jenkins |
Medium: Printing - Woodcut |
|
Venue:
Marketplace at Eastworks |
Address: 116 Pleasant St |
Event: At the transitional time from subconscious to conscious, whether it be from sleep or a daydream, there is a particularly odd mixture of peacefulness and the oncoming rush of anxiety that masquerades as everyday life, that I can never seem to escape. These woodcut prints represent that moment of transition. The personal references, places, objects, and people that I use create images that convey an attempt to forget all the pressures, responsibilities, and commitments of life, although they are still very present in the conscious state of mind. A symbol of reality, whether it represents the rapidly passing time, heartbreak, uncontrollable circumstances, broken promises, body image, or other intangible ideas and diverse emotions, brings one back to the reality they have momentarily escaped. I recently have become more engaged with an introspection of intimate emotions, whether intended, implied, or tainted by societal guidelines with a focus on the preparation and expectations of relationships, or lack thereof, in a new series of small scale, high contrast, linocut prints. |

Artist: Alberto Mancini |
Medium: Painting - Oil |
|
Venue:
Easthampton City Arts |
Address: 43 Main St. |
Event: Paintings by Alberto Mancini at Easthampton City Arts Gallery Space.
Alberto Mancini is from the small town of Atina, located in the mountains of southern Italy where his family has lived for 400 years. His father, a portrait photographer, taught Mancini to draw at a very young age, and encouraged him to experiment with a variety of media. Mancini had his first art exhibition at the age of 15. The work displayed was of figures and landscapes in oil.
Mancini has been described as both poet and painter. The Italian poet and essayist Alfonso Cardamone said "Mancini masters his technique...he is modern because he meticulously deconstructs images...he goes beyond every post-modernism and is never influenced by banality and self-complacent insignificance."
Alberto now makes his home at Eastworks, right here in Easthampton. |

Medium: Ceramics |
|
Venue:
Easthampton City Arts |
Address: 43 Main St. |
Event: Kristin Sherlaw will exhibit a selection of her porcelain with silkscreened slip decoration. Multiple layers of color and pattern combinations. At Easthampton City Arts Gallery Space.
'With an unmistakable connection to nature and the past, these thoroughly modern pieces evoke both a sense of whimsy and elegance.
The luminous surface is attributed to the use of fine porcelain fired to 2200˚ F. Hand drawn designs are turned into silk screens creating the ability to apply multiple layers of pattern and color, in endless combinations.
Every edge is also hand cut and finished, making each piece truly unique.
Enjoy and may my pieces bring delight to your daily life'

Artist: Hannah Richards |
Medium: Printmaking |
|
Venue:
Metacomet Stage |
Address: 43 Main St |
Event: Hannah Richards received her B.A. in Studio Art: Printmaking from Smith College, where she also completed a Kahn Institute Post-baccalaureate fellowship; an interdisciplinary exploration of Form and Function. These prints are carborundum collagraphs, an intaglio printmaking technique that involves building up the surface of a metal plate, rather than incising it, to produce an image. This process results in a deep embossing of the paper's surface, printed on an Intaglio press. Because of the delicacy of the plates, this method yields a monoprint, rather than an edition, as many intaglio methods produce. These prints explore the visual texture and abstract beauty of microscopic forms and organic materials, emphasizing the relationships between forms in nature, which seem to echo at all levels of scale. This body of work deals with the fluidity and interface between two- and three-dimensional textures, as evident in the surface of these prints. Hannah also works as a birth doula, and finds that each of these two fields often enrich her experience of the other. She lives in Northampton with her husband, Max and daughter, Sina. |
