Artist: Susan Barocas Medium: Painting - Oil Venue: Nashawannuck Gallery Address: 40 Cottage St Event: I am a plein air artist who is drawn to the beauty of the landscapes found in and around Western Massachusetts, the Cape and Islands. One of my inspirations was my great-uncle Frans Alberda, a dutch plein air painter. As a mentor, he encouraged and guided me in my early years. I have been fortunate enough to study with many local artists including Jamie Young and Jane Lund and more recently in Provincetown with Hilda Neily, a member of the Cape Cod School of Art. My work is impressionistic and my paintings evolve from color masses, with particular attention paid to how contiguous colors affect one another. All of my work is done in oil, with a palette knife. I find the work most satisfying, spending time in beautiful places such as the Oxbow, the Meadows, and old neighborhoods. My goal is to paint the season, the time of day, the moment. Artist: Brienne Cosman Medium: Painting - Mixed Mediums Venue: Pioneer Valley Ballet Address: 116 Pleasant St, Eastworks Bldg, Suite 155 Event: Brienne Cosman is currently a graduate Student at the University of Massachusetts where she is studying design. Although throughout her life she has been painting, she majored in Studio Art in College where she really honed her skills. Nowadays she paints whenever she has a free minute and her favorite subject is typically whatever is in front of her, which is usually the cat. This is the first time 'The Cellar Bar' portion of 'Venus' is being used for gallery space. Oil paintings by the Patricks can still be viewed upstairs in the dining area.
