Past Art Walk July 10, 2010
Artist: Denise Riggs 'Reflections' |
Medium: Photography |
|
Venue:
Nashawannuck Gallery |
Address: 40 Cottage St |
Event: Reflections have been a favorite subject for years, they facinate me. They bring out the best of contemporary photography. Multiple layers of information captured on a two dimentional medium. Seeing behind, in front of and through the reflective surface creates a puzzle of sorts for the viewer to solve.
Reflections are ruminations for life. Nothing we experience is simply surface deep, there are caveats and dimensions to most everything, some visible, some not, and some just below the surface of our consciousness.
I shoot “straight”; there are no manipulations (no cropping or editing) in this work. |

Event: In 2005 I was able to accomplish the dream I had of going to Africa. I was 65 years old and my sister and I decided to go with a group from the National Zoo to Tanzania and Zanzibar. I have been a Friends Of National Zoo (FONZ) Volunteer since 1998. We were privileged to have two of the most knowledgeable guides available to us. They showed us the beauty of their native country and introduced us to researchers working in their country.I was just learning how to use my camera and was given the opportunity to learn while seeing and experiencing the vast wildlife and native peoples that live there.I hope that my pictures of this trip give you some of the pleasure I experienced in going there.

Flywheel Arts Collective Event Time: 5-8 pm |

Event: New Paintings
These are paintings from the last year or so(plus a couple from many years ago) I have been focusing on music in a pretty much 'tunnel-vision' manner for the last 15 years, but visual art is my older/deeper creative outlet. I think of these as 'new directions for old thought/dreams'. Many things are predictable or disappointing...in art& music there are surprises, and endless inspiration. Flywheel has been a place of many great nights & I hope there are many many years more' |

Recycled Art is Environmentally Smart!
I am interested in Creating Art out of nature and found objects.
I work in many different mediums and while evolving as a being and artist spiritually and creatively.
I have always been challenged with mastering the works that are in front of me.
Art dolls bring out the personality in people, they can relate to a doll and get tickled in a harmonious way about the whimsey in the character a doll represents.
When painting in oils, acrylics, and watercolors,I may bring to light my interpretation of the way I perceive the different dimensions of the world and the universe.
To create is an enlightening experience. Forming beauty out of Art with a finished piece that can bring appreciation and joy to others, is a great human experience.
To maybe even inspire others to create is an uplifting spiritual gift.
