Artist: Claire Metzner - 'Interstices' Medium: Painting Venue: Nashawannuck Gallery Address: 40 Cottage St Event: Claire's paintings, abstractions and landscapes, are inspired by what she sees, reads, and experiences. these two categories are traditionally treated as disparate; however the two types, for her, are not mutually exclusive. In her work there are frequent exchanges between the two--formal, conceptual, emotional, and otherwise. The representations are clarifications already apparent to the eye, while her abstractions are discoveries of much less visually apparent phenomena. Claire's most recent paintings are an exploration and articulation of visual and physical connections (space, speed, time, light, gravity, etc.). As an artist and educator based in Western Massachusetts, Claire has a studio in Easthampton. She has degrees in the fine arts and art education from the State University of New York at New Paltz and at Rhode Island College. Purchase Contact:

Grant In 2007, I discovered that I could use my digital camera as a tool to manipulate the colors, textures, and lines of a scene by slowing down the shutter speed and gesturing with the camera as I snapped the picture. Since then I have been fascinated with this method, which I call Gestural Photography, and have applied it to a range of subjects, refining the technique over time. Artist: Hawk Alfredson Medium: Painting - Oil Venue: The East Village Event Time: music from 6 p.m. Address: 41 Union St. Event: Swedish painter, Hawk Alfredson's paintings have hung on the walls of the famed Chelsea Hotel in NYC for the past 15 years. Recently, a new owner took over the hotel and many of the artists left the building.
