Artist: PACE presents: Open Mic with Chris Scanlon and Rick Gottlieb |
Medium: Music Performance |
|
Venue:
Luthiers Co op |
Address: 108 Cottage St |
Event: 5-6pm: Open Mic
6-7pm: Chris Scanlon
Chris Scanlon, in the traditions of Mulvey, Springsteen and Smither, weaves his songs into his own brand of coming of age stories about family, struggle and transcendence. His Folk/Rock/Pop starts somewhere on the Garden State Parkway and ends up in your heart. He’s a songwriter with an enthusiastic following in Northampton, MA, a competitive music market. He moves easily from rock to folk, ballads to anthems, with a little scat and funk thrown in. In other words, Chris Scanlon is not your typical singer-songwriter. As a solo artist, Chris has won wide recognition in the area, having been chosen to participate in the singer-songwriter event juried by WRSI 95.3 The River in 2003, 2004 and 2007 (The River was named one of Rolling Stone’s top ten radio stations). Chris was also nominated for best singer-songwriter in the Valley Advocate Grand Band Slam and has performed with Dayna Kurtz, Pete Seeger, and most recently at the Cape May Singer-Songwriter conference in New Jersey featuring Geoffrey Gaines. “U-Turn” (2007, Plaid Jacket Records) is Chris Scanlon's first full-length solo album.
7-8pm: Rick Gottlieb
Rick Gottlieb is an acoustic musician who has played guitar for more than 40 years. His calling as a musician began when he was just five years old in Flushing, NY. His mother bought a guitar for herself to learn, but quickly gave it up. Young Rick picked up the instrument and began strumming simple tunes. He attended the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music for guitar, voice, and music theory lessons shortly after and aspired to become a professional musician. Rick's voice and music is reminiscent of the styles of James Taylor and David Wilcox, but he plays in a number of different genres, including Bossa Nova, Contemporary Folk, Traditional, and Great American Songbook Standards. Rick's musical stylings range from percussive and driving to soft and introspective, while consistently remaining harp-like and melodic. His CD “Nobody’s Fool” was released in 2008.

I became interested in art and photography over twenty five years ago. Lately, I have been working with digital images of natural objects. I use photography to capture the beauty of the world around me and to show people the details that are often overlooked. I often use my photographs as inspiration for my paintings. I hope you enjoy my view of life. |
